Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, S.482 -- Quashing of Criminal Proceedings -- Informant Distinct from Victim -- The real victim, and not an informant who merely set the criminal law in motion, must be a party to the settlement on the basis of which quashment is sought. Non-joining of such an informant in a settlement reached between the accused and the real victim is not fatal to quashing. Offences having a civil flavour with commercial overtones, where the wrong is essentially to the victim and disputes stand settled, may be quashed even though the offences are non-compoundable.
