Indian Penal Code, 1860, S.498A -- Cruelty to Wife -- Unlawful Demand -- Explanation (b) to S.498A covers any unlawful demand by the husband or his family and is not limited to demands for dowry -- Explanation (a) covers wilful conduct driving the wife to suicide -- Vague oral testimony unsupported by proved documents does not satisfy the ingredients of the offence -- Letters attributed to the deceased where handwriting is not established cannot be relied upon to sustain conviction.
